RECOMMENDED GEAR FOR YOUR FEET

Mountaineering Boots

These MUST be compatible with your crampons. Boots, much like climbing shoes, are highly personal and the fit differs from climber to climber. We HIGHLY recommend trying these on in person, feeling them out, and talking to reps and the local community for additional guidance and recommendations. We've included both single boots and double boots below. Single boots are typically lighter and more comfortable, but sacrifice warmth. You will need double boots for Chimborazo, and some of the other glaciated peaks if your feet run cold typically.

Approach Shoes/Boots

Specifically designed to hike across rocky or slightly technical terrain, these boots will be used for the standard hiking routes (anything non-glaciated). We HIGHLY recommend trying these on in person, feeling them out, and talking to reps and the local community for additional guidance and recommendations. Any hiking boot will do, but these are our favorite, by far.

Puffy Shoes

These are used after we arrive at the refuge, or high camp, to keep your feet warm! Definitely an optional luxury, but well worth it in our opinion. Make sure to get a pair with traction on the bottom so as not to slip on the snow/ice.

Gaiters

A full-height gaiter & fully waterproof to protect your pants from crampon strikes and snow from entering your boots.

Recommendation

Flip Flops/Crocs

Letting your feet air out and rest comfortably is hugely important after each climb. Nothing better than a nice quality pair of flip flops, or crocs...for those that may enjoy them!

Boot Socks

A nice pair of socks is absolutely essential to keep your feet in tip top shape while hiking countless miles. If you have socks you like, that don't give you blisters, use those. If you don't, checkout our favorite recommendations below.
